Indian cinema is at the top of the world right now with Slumdog Millionaire bagging eight of 10 Oscars it was nominated for. It doesn't really matter whether it is an Indian film or a British one, people of India are overjoyed with the contribution of Bollywood artists in it. It indeed is a 'Jai Ho' time for the country, which has witnessed the great legend Satyajit Ray holding the shining trophy as the lifetime achievement award in the past.

The success of Slumdog Millionaire in the 81st Academy Awards will always be a never- ending glory for A R Rahman and Gulzar who bagged the 'Best original Song' for Jai Ho. The young musician from South India added to the joy of countrymen by sweeping another award for "Best Original Score'. With this success Rahman has surely taken music of Indian cinema to a new height. Rahman's wooing the world audience with 'O Saya' and 'Jai Ho' at the grandest stage of all will also remain as an unforgettable incident in the history of Indian cinema. The genius however, did not forget to thank her mother for her blessings. "I have nothing but my mother and she is there with me. I thank her for making me coming all this way with her blessings," he said.

The other categories that the movie swept awards for include Best Direction that went to Danny Boyle, Best Sound Mixing that went to Ian Tapp, Resul Pookutty and Richard Pryke, Best cinematography, which is a great achievement for Anthony Dod Mantle while Simon Beaufoy and Chris Dicken bagged awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing respectively. Last came the award for the Best Motion Picture, but it was definitely not the least. "It has been collaboration between hundreds of people. All of us are here to share this moment. This was an extraordinary journey," a jubilant Slumdog team said while addressing the audience after emerging as the undisputed leader at the Kodak Theaters.

The eventful night at Kodak Theatre also saw Megan Mylan winning the Oscar for Best Documentary on Short Subject, Titanic starer Kate Winslet for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Sean Penn winning the Best Actor award in a leading role and Penelope Cruz taking the trophy for Best Supporting Actress in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. "Has anyone fainted here, may be I will be the first one," exclaimed Penelope immediately after receiving the award.

The night was also very special for makers of Departure, the Japanese film that was awarded as Best Foreign Language Film, Richard King for best Sound Editing in The Dark Knight, Eric Baba for Best Visual Effects in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, James Marsh for Man or Wire, that won award for Best Documentary Feature Film and Heath Ledger who got the prize for his performance as the Best Supporting Actor in The Dark Knight.

Best Animated Feature: Andrew Stanton for Wall-E

Best Original Screenplay: Dustin Lance Black for Milk
